馃嚜馃嚫 Hospes Palacio del Bailio, C贸rdoba [REVIEW]

HOSPES PALACIO DEL BAILIO

THE HOTEL

The hotel is a renovated 16th century palace that still retains the inspired architecture of it鈥檚 time.

The ruins of a Roman villa from the 1st century AD is visible through a special glass floor in the dining room of the hotel.

An ancient Roman bath is incorporated in the spa area of the hotel.

CHECK-IN

The old part of Cordoba where the hotel is located is wonderful old city with a maze of small and winding roads.

After a 4 hour drive from Madrid, one of those narrow twisting roads lead us to the hotel entrance which was an old brick archway with a deadend drive way that could accommodate three cars.

We arrived around 9:30pm and were a little confused at first about the parking situation, as it says on their website that there is parking (they may have meant street parking).

After getting out and asking a member of staff, we were instructed to leave the car at the entrance to unload and they would valet it.

They charge 27 EURO a day for this service.

When we arrived at the reception desk, we were offered some flavored water that we happily accepted.

The check-in process was easy and straightforward.

After confirming our details we were soon on our way to our room.

As we walked through the hotel we were oriented by the member of staff taking us to our room.

We crossed one of the courtyards with fountains and the outdoor pool which is adjacent to a lunch restaurant and bar.

Much to my surprise when we arrived at our room, our suitcases had already been delivered. Good service!

THE ROOM

We opted for the Deluxe room and were not disappointed.

They offer three tiers of rooms,聽Dreamers, Deluxe,聽and聽Junior Suite.聽

I booked through Hotels.com and with my Gold Status I am entitled to an upgraded room if they are available.

Unfortunately none of the Junior Suites were available, so instead they gave us one of their best Deluxe rooms.

With my status also came a bottle of Cava, and a discount on the spa treatments.

Our room was situated just off the main courtyard where the swimming pool is, yet it was completely quiet – a theme that played out throughout our entire stay.

In our room, were two stunning stone arches that were part of the original 16th century building.

The high ceilings mixed with the modern Spanish interior gave the room a spacious, warm and comfortable feeling.

We had a small sitting area, and a very roomy bathroom with separate bathtub and shower.

RESTAURANT

We were a little hungry at this point, and found we had two options for dinner, either in the inside dining room or the outside terrace.

We opted to have some wine and appetizers at their Restaurant Arbequina located in the front courtyard of the hotel just off the entrance.

The setting was divine and beautifully peaceful, and as you can imagine on a hot summer’s evening Cordoba, perfect!

HOSPES PALACIO DEL BAILIO

We had been waiting for this moment when we could indulge ourselves in good Spanish wine, bread, cheese and iberico ham!

All of which were delicious.

The service was attentive, and very pleasant.

It was a nice introduction to our couple days at the hotel, and the city of Cordoba.

BREAKFAST

After a peaceful sleep in a very comfortable bed, we headed to breakfast.

Our room included free breakfast, and free wifi, thanks again to my Hotels.com status.

The breakfast room has a two storey high ceiling giving the room a perfectly spacious and light feel in which to eat your morning meal.

However, the most distinctive feature of this room was the glass floor, under which was the original remains of a Roman Villa.

Roman ruins are an incredible sight to see over your coffee and croissants!

The buffet was quite extensive, and included all kinds of fresh breads, cheeses, meats, with a large fresh fruit section, with juices and even Cava to enjoy.

There was also a menu with an array of hot foods that were made to order and brought to your table.

All in all, the breakfast at Hospes Palacio del Bailio was definitely worth making time for.

THE POOL

After a morning of sightseeing around the Mosque Cathedral, and as the temperature neared 108潞F (42潞C) we opted to put on our bathing suits and sit by the pool.

They have a mixture of traditional loungers, and oversized sofas for proper lounging on, many under the trees around the pool.

A lovely setting, where it never felt crowded despite other guests being present.

We were able to order drinks by the pool from the adjacent bar/restaurant area.

Which we certainly did.

Several in fact!

It made for a wonderful afternoon of real relaxing.

CHECKOUT

The following morning we checked out after another fantastic breakfast, and another quick visit to a historical palace in the city.

We had a bit of a drive ahead of us to Marbella where we were staying with friends, and needed to get there in time for lunch.

The checkout process was just as easy and seamless as the check in had been.

We were sad to be leaving, and had we known how much we were to enjoy the hotel we would have planned to stay longer.

We will the time we visit Cordoba.

We asked for our car to be brought around for us at our departure time of eleven o鈥檆lock.

The car was there on time and our bags were loaded into it for us.

As we got in we saw that there were two bottles of water that had been placed in the cup holders for our journey.

It was the small touches like this that makes this hotel stand out.

In my experience it is always the little things lead to the overall experience, good or bad.

In this case the experience was definitely an excellent one.

HOSPES PALACIO DEL BAILIO

As we wound our way through the cobbled streets of old Cordoba, we could help gush about the experience we had just had.

We recounted all the ways that the hotel, and the hotel staff had done their jobs to ensure that we felt like the most important guests there.

We will most definitely be going back.

I鈥檓 sure a week at the Hospes Palacio del Bailio will fly by as quick as our two nights did.
